The MIPP Project: Insects, citizens and the molecular dog
DATE: 04/07/2017 14:34

We expect you on Thursday night at the Museum to discover the MIPP project (Monitoring Insects with public participation) together with the researcher Fabio Mosconi and Teseo, the molecular dog.

MIPP is a project of the Comando Unità per la Tutela Forestale, Ambientale e Agroalimentare Carabinieri , co-financed by the European Commission  (LIFE+ programme) with the aim to develop and test monitoring methods for some Italian insects species, protected by the habitat directive: five large beetle species (Osmoderma eremita, Lucanus cervus, Cerambyx cerdo, Rosalia alpina, Morimus funereus) and three butterflies (Lopinga achine, Parnassius apollo e Zerynthia cassandra/polyxena).

The project involves also special researchers: the citizens, to obtain a large amount of data, and a molecular dog, named Teseo, trained to search and find O.eremita larvae (the dog is also called “Osmodog”).

Twice on Thursday the 6th of July (7:00p.m and 9:00 p.m.) Fabio and Teseo will present the results of the project and will invite you to join the project and become citizen scientists.
